The basilica of Santo Stefano encompasses a complex of religious edifices in the city of Bologna. It includes the Church of the Holy Sepulchre which, accordong to tradition, was built over a temple of the goddess Isis by St Petronius, a bishop of the city during the 5th century. (It was rebuilt in the 12th century.) This churchis a deliberate evocation of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.
